Terra Cotta Warriors & Snow

Today we went down to National Geographic's Explorer's Hall to see the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit. The kids and I really liked it (although it was really crowded.) Unfortunately, you couldn't take pictures in the exhibit. They had a reproduction statue you could touch and take pictures of outside the main hall.

It was snowing steadily by the time we got out of the exhibit. Katie had fun watching the snow fall out the Metro window.

After the exhibit, we went to church to practice the dance that Nic, Katie, I, and 5 others will do tomorrow for both services. The topic this Sunday is the Jewishness of Jesus, so we're doing a kind of Jewish dance. I don't know if anyone will video it tomorrow, but if they do I'll post it. I took the picture of the snow out the sanctuary windows.

Nic Makes the News

A newscrew from WJZ Channel 13 came to Longfellow to interview the kids and teachers about the Technology video. Nic had two video/sound bites in the story. I think it's very cool!

Last Day of Fall Soccer

We're kinda glad soccer is over for this season. Two games today--they won the first 6-0, and tied the second 1-1. That's an OK way to end the season.

Technology!

Nic & Katie helped their school make a video to try to win $30,000 worth of technology stuff. Nic has a voiceover solo. It starts at "If we got gear from Interwrite..." and you'll see both N&K throughout the video.

Their entry is below. Click on Technology! or on the picture above.

Wilde Lake HS Regional String Festival

Katie & Nic were part of a combined strings concert Tuesday night. Kids from Longfellow Elementary, Bryant Woods Elementary, Clemens Crossing Elementary, Harpers Choice Middle, Wilde Lake Middle, and Wilde Lake High schools played a lovely concert. I took video of just the songs my kids were a part of. They played with all the other elementary schools for the first two numbers, the MS students played 2 songs, the HS students played 2 songs, and then everybody played the final number.

Happy Strings!

Warming up beforehand.

Scales in the warm-up room.

Excited to go play!

Dr. Shumway, the HS music director, introduces the evening.

Song #1: Morning Lights, by Brian Balmages (video here.)

Song #2: Rhythm 'n Blues, by Soon Hee Newbold (video here.)

Combined Orchestra song: March of the Meistersingers, by Wagner, arranged by Sandra Dackow (video here.)
